Going Part-Time

I said back in May that I'd treat this blog like a job and post every day, Monday to Friday. I've decided now to go part-time, so from now on I'll only be posting on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays.

I also promised I'd post your comments and my responses to them within 24 hours. I can't promise that anymore, so I'll just do the best I can. If you don't see your comment posted, it's not because I've rejected it; it's because I haven't gotten to it yet. Please be patient with me. You have all the time in the world. I don't! ; )

I know this is cheating a bit, but this is my entry for today! Have a good weekend!

Shin,

You have been amazing with your blog - I am sad you won't be 'blogging' every day - but thats only a selfish thing....I know by now your position on religion but I wanted to tell you that you are in my prayers every day. Even my eldest girl - Ava (4 years) mentions your name when she offers up a little prayer ("Please God, bless Mum, Dad, Ineke [her sis] and Shin who is a plane ride away"). You have touched my heart for reasons not even I know......

God Bless Shin...

Dan

Dan,

I'm so touched that somewhere out there is a little girl who is including me, a complete stranger, in her prayers. Makes me a bit misty-eyed, actually.

You've been posting some really kind and helpful comments on my blog. I'm curious... how did you find your way to my blog? Where do you live? Do you have a loved one with cancer? I'd like to know more about you, if you don't mind.

And if I've asked you these questions before, please excuse me. I'm not too good at retaining information these days.

I would also like to thank Dan for so many thoughtful, well written, considered and researched postings. I too shall miss Shins daily posts on a selfish note but completely understand and hope that she uses the time to rest and enjoy her wonderful family as she so rightfully deserves xxxxx

Hi Shin,

I found my way to your blog whilst sitting in front of the computer with my mum researching breast cancer and any trials that were on offer. My mums best friend was first diagnosed with breast cancer 4 years ago and now it has returned with a vengeance - she is responding OK to chemo but doctors have told her 6 months to 3 years. This lady has six children and her husband passed away from a stroke 6 months before she was first diagnosed so things have not been easy for her - mum has become very close - I was just helping her out as mum is a computer novice when I happened along your blog.

Shin, I do no read your blog out of some morbid curiosity or as you put it to listening to the rantings of a dying women – I have enough cancer experience in my family to last a life-time plus some – I read your blog to simply keep in contact with someone I have never met but that I am genuinely concerned for – simple as that really..

My family and cancer – well my grandmother died of cervical cancer, my grandfather on the other side had advanced bowl cancer when he died, my uncle died of lung cancer, my mum beat thyroid cancer (20 years ago now), I guy at work has just been diagnosed with lung cancer and another with throat cancer – I know them both well. I have also had a brush with it – but no cool stories to tell there…..So the long and short of it is I am familiar with this thing. One thing you have shown though is that whilst you may have the disease you are NOT the disease – you appear to remain and loving mum, very proud wife and a beautiful mind…..another reason why I choose to keep in contact.

Me..well I live in Sydney Australia – about 10 minutes drive from downtown. I have been married for a little over 10 years and now have two beautiful (well at least we think so) girls – one is 4 years old, the other 6 months old.

Like I have mentioned before I, like Tony, work in the banking and finance industry and I am an actuary by trade. I have worked in the US, UK and Bangkok apart from Sydney – but have chosen to settle in Sydney because this is where my fam is..

Religion….mmm…born Catholic..still Catholic. I am not out there pounding the streets trying to convert the masses – my belief is my choice and so I respect that others also have the choice. I have gone on at length about faith in previous posting so no need to get back on the box again – I’m sure you know where I stand

Shin, I am so glad to have met you, very glad..I really hope this quick rundown of the life of dan is OK and MORE importantly I hope this finds you in good spirits and still fighting hard…

God Bless Shin

Dan

Dan,

Thanks so much for telling me about yourself. I think you have a bit of a following among other readers of this blog as well, and I'm sure they also appreciate knowing a bit about your background.

Thanks for being so open-minded and open-hearted in sharing your thoughts with me and others.

Dan's the first Catholic that I've liked on paper.

I'm very sorry to hear you're going "part time" but hope that you can use the extra time for your family. Even when one is well it can be a big effort writing a blog regularly, quite draining.

And please never worry about responding to my comments, even if you don't manage to read them it doesn't matter, just know that if you do ever read this that I am thinking of you all the time, and telling my family about you.

Lisacc,

Thanks for telling me that. It means something to me, it really does.
