Yes, No, Yes, No, Maybe!

Shin had a tough night last night. She was restless and breathless for a lot of the night. The medication was helping but not fixing the problem. With the amazing help of the team of Home Care doctors and nurses from Assisi, Shin is now sleeping peacefully.

When the nurse came in to check her this morning she found no oxygen reading or pulse in her fingers. There was no evident blood pressure in her arms and her pulse elsewhere in her body was weaker than the day before.

In the early hours of this morning I phoned the doctors to describe Shin's situation. They advised me on a plan of action to help make her immediately comfortable. The final question the doctor had was, "Is Shin confused?" I said "no" without hesitation, because I had just been having quite a lucid conversation with her. When I got off the phone I asked Shin whether she was confused, just to make sure. She said "Yes...No...Yes...No...Maybe!" and then smiled.

Shin is now sleeping soundly and is no longer under any distress. She is still breathing, her heart is still pumping. For how long? I don't know!

Will my tears help??? Do my Mothers tears help??? I am sure thousands of tears have been shed for Shin.... through sadness, through confusion... through happiness... Her sense of humour and the strength of both herself and all of you supporting her through her journey will stay strong in my heart and memory for eternity... THANK YOU for showing us all how much is possible.... xx

I feel very sad and worried but thanks so much for the update. Are Shin worries-free? Though don't know her in person but really have "feelings" for her and really hope she will be ok...but seems like she is not getting better, however no matter, at least she is pain free and still able to "joke" which is so amazing and marvellous of her...is not easy for her...tell her we are so proud of her and "envy" and learn from her..like she said in tv, ironically, she thought this is the best time of her life, I understand what she meant and yes I agreed totally and though her life may not be as long as many but she certainly has not wasted her life and has lived even better...

Michelle, thanks so much and I think what we can do is to hope that she can live painfree without distress and can leave in peace of mind and without any fear ....does she has any unfulfilled wish? certainly we will be very sad (pls don't let her know even she will know in heart...because that will make her even more sad and can't bear to "depart")...Also thanks Alicia (though we don't know who is Alicia but certainly must be someone who loves Shin too)...How are Tony and the kids coping? are they prepared for the worst? Frankly speaking, really hope that Shin can continue to live as long as possible but of course without pain and distress.

Hardly a pulse, but still a sense of humor. Shin is a true force of nature. I cry, I smile, I cry, I smile. I smile.

You folks and good friends are just fabulous. I know it must be difficult, but you'll never regret the time you spend with Shin and her family. I believe it is the ultimate experience of life for you. My hearts are with you.

I am Carol's friend and pray for her as well.

Sleeping is the most peaceful way to be.

I hope she is dreaming. The morphine may give her some lovely trippy visions - and all legal too!

Funny she's still the editor! I had known her but a couple of days and I used the word 'irony' in a very, very casual conversation. Well, for the next 10 minutes I received a rather comprehensive explanation about why my use of 'irony' was incorrect. :)

To be surrounded by her loved ones, no more can be asked at any time, much less one such as Shin's moment right now.

Please give her my thoughts, and a gentle pat on the top of her head. She really hated that. :)

I can truly say that she has affected me in many different ways, and I thank her for being in my life for the short time that she was. Please tell her. I will be in Singapore in a week or so, but I know that she hasn't the energy for visitors, so I shall go atop a hill in Bukit Timah and have a glass of wine with her.
